It is not often that Hollywood news makes the Inside Energy Read Feed, but this one is right in our sweet spot: a teenage heartthrob heads to North Dakota to seek fortune in the oil boom. Svelte Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford has been picked to head the cast in ABC’s new drama Boom. The show will explore the drama in the midst of the Bakken oil fields, a discovery that has caused a “geopolitical shift and an economic boom in North Dakota on a scale not seen since the 1849 California Gold Rush.” Chace will star as a young fortune-seeker named Billy who heads to the oil fields on an “epic pilgrimage” with his wife Kelly. Like many real-life characters who have ended up in the Bakken, Billy and Kelly risk life and limb for the chance at oil field fortune.
We’ll be watching to see what happens with Hollywood meets the Bakken.
