Inside Energy Is A National Hub For Energy Reporting

More

Seven public radio and television stations from the nation’s energy epicenter in Colorado, Wyoming and North Dakota created this collaborative reporting center called Inside Energy. IE provides reporting that moves beyond polarized arguments and emotional debate to explore the points of tension, the tradeoffs and opportunities, and the very human consequences of energy policy, production, use and innovation.

Inside Energy will provide coverage of energy that moves beyond polarized arguments and emotional debate to explore the points of tension, the tradeoffs and opportunities, and the very human consequences of energy policy, production, use and innovation.

While originating with a focus on the energy boom states of Colorado, North Dakota and Wyoming, the reporting will explore issues of national interest and importance.

These states represent the gamut of energy production and research. They produce or extract oil, gas, coal, wind, solar, geothermal, and biofuels. They are home to centers of research, such as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Institute for Energy Research. And they contain examples of emerging, boom, and mature energy ecosystems.

“Energy issues impact the lives of every person in America,” said Laura Frank, vice president of news at Rocky Mountain PBS and Inside Energy executive supervisor. “Inside Energy will serve the energy information needs of all our communities, providing local in-depth reports with a national and international perspective.”

Inside Energy is expected to launch in early 2014. Its multimedia reports will be found online, on air and through media partners of the participating public media outlets. The partner stations include: Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting Network, Inc. (Rocky Mountain PBS and KUVO public radio), Colorado Public Television, KUNC public radio in Colorado, Wyoming Public Media, Wyoming PBS, and Prairie Public Broadcasting (public TV and radio in North Dakota).

Inside Energy is launching with a two-year, $1.4 million startup grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
