New York Times joins the conversation on the North Dakota boom. For energy news geeks, this 2-part series may turn out to be the new Snow Fall. In The Downside of the Boom and Where Oil and Politics Mix, reporters Deborah Sontag and Robert Gebeloff dug deep into the regulatory morass of North Dakota oil and gas and found — as did we a few months ago — that toxic spills are up and regulators are too cosy with the industry. We also did our own solid data dive into the spills with numbers that were difficult to find, and difficult to analyze.
